Creating a shared foundation in agile project management across Amazon teams worldwide
Amazon partnered with Elite to design a bespoke Introduction to Agile Project Management program for colleagues across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Approximately 100 participants received a consistent one-day learning experience, adapted to different regions while remaining grounded in Amazon's own working environment and project challenges.
Approximately 100 colleagues · Europe, North America, Asia and Australia
AmazonFor a large international organization, introducing a common way of thinking about agile project management presents two challenges at once.
The learning must be sufficiently consistent that colleagues in different countries and business areas develop a shared foundation. At the same time, a global program cannot simply ignore differences in regional context, participant experience and the situations people face in their work.
Amazon worked with Elite to address both requirements through a tailored one-day Introduction to Agile Project Management program designed for employees working across multiple functions and regions.
The business challenge
Amazon needed a practical introduction to agile project management that could work for colleagues operating in fast-paced environments and across a range of business functions.
A generic off-the-shelf agile course would not adequately address that requirement. The program needed to reflect Amazon's operational environment and project-delivery challenges while retaining clear, consistent learning outcomes.
There was also an international design challenge. Content needed to remain relevant to participants across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia without turning four regional versions into four different courses.
Capability built around the organization
Co-design with Amazon stakeholders
Elite worked with Amazon stakeholders to define the program requirements and develop a tailored one-day introduction rather than adopting a generic agile syllabus.
Amazon-relevant learning
Examples, discussions and program emphasis were shaped around Amazon's operational environment, business priorities and project-delivery challenges so participants could connect the ideas with their own work.
Learning through application
The program combined explanation with practical exercises, interactive discussion and real-world examples. Participants considered how agile principles could be applied in the context of their own roles and projects.
Consistent global core with regional adaptation
For the international rollout, the program was adapted for regional requirements across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia while retaining common learning outcomes and key messages.
What the partnership supported
Approximately 100 colleagues reached
The program was delivered to around 100 Amazon colleagues working across multiple functions and international regions.
Four international regions
Delivery reached participants in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia through one controlled learning program.
A common foundation in agile working
Participants were introduced to core agile principles, methodologies and ways of working through a consistent program, creating shared language around agile project management.
Application rather than methodology alone
Exercises, discussions and contextual examples helped participants explore collaboration, changing priorities, adaptive delivery and continuous improvement in relation to their own work.
Continuing capability development
The Amazon rollout demonstrated how a tailored learning program can retain a common core while serving a geographically and functionally diverse audience. The design balanced consistent agile foundations and learning outcomes with enough contextual adaptation to make the experience relevant across different regions and working environments.
